(Central News Agency reporter Lu Tai-cheng, Taitung County, 2nd) Taitung's elementary and junior high school nutrition lunches will be 'upgraded' after the new school year begins in September this year. The county government will arrange for students to receive at least one whole chicken thigh, pork chop, or mahi-mahi fillet per week; the frequency of side dish provision will also be adjusted to twice a week, including one serving of fruit or dairy products.
The Taitung County Government today announced the '115th Academic Year School Nutrition Lunch Price and Ingredient Supply Principles Plan.' Starting from the new academic year in September this year, the free nutrition lunch program will be further optimized to ensure children eat more balanced, safer, and better meals.
The Taitung County Government Education Department stated that for the 115th academic year, nutrition lunches will maintain the principle of providing one main dish, three side dishes, and one soup per meal, balancing nutritional balance and meal diversity. However, the frequency of side dish provision will be adjusted from once a week to twice a week, including one serving of fruit, and another serving chosen from dairy products, soy milk, fruit, or 100% juice, to increase children's diverse nutrition.
For main dishes, it is planned to arrange at least one selected meal per week, providing high-quality protein ingredients such as whole boneless chicken thighs, chicken thighs, pork chops, fish fillets, mahi-mahi, or other seafood, to enhance meal quality, balance dietary variety with local ingredient utilization, and increase students' acceptance and anticipation of nutrition lunches.
To strengthen campus food safety management, the Education Department stated that starting from the 115th academic year, school lunch ingredient standards will be comprehensively raised. Pork and chicken will use CAS excellent agricultural products, and all eggs will be washed eggs, implementing strict controls from the source to ensure the safety of meal quality.
Regarding subsidies and meal fee planning, starting from the 115th academic year, free nutrition lunch subsidies will be extended to accompanying teachers and childcare workers in public elementary school affiliated kindergartens and county-run dedicated kindergartens, as well as private elementary and junior high school students. Meal fee standards will be benchmarked against Taipei City's school nutrition lunches: NT$75 per meal for junior high schools with self-operated kitchens and central kitchens, NT$70 for elementary schools; for outsourced packed meals, it will be NT$80 for junior high schools and NT$75 for elementary schools, reasonably reflecting meal costs and maintaining meal quality.
At the same time, the county will continue to subsidize basic fuel costs for school lunches in schools with self-operated kitchens and central kitchens at NT$460 per semester, investing funds to support kitchen staff salaries and ingredient transportation, ensuring the operation of the meal supply system.
