(Taichung, May 2nd, Central News Agency reporter Su Mu-chun) In Taichung, a citizen left a wallet in a scooter delivery box and parked the vehicle in an alleyway. However, at midnight, a man surnamed Liu rummaged through it and stole over ten thousand New Taiwan dollars from the wallet. Police investigated by reviewing surveillance footage, identified him as a suspect, and will send him for prosecution on theft charges after questioning.

A netizen posted on the social media platform Threads yesterday, stating that after going shopping in the early hours of April 30th, they left their wallet in a delivery box and parked their scooter under an alleyway in North District, Taichung. Afterwards, they discovered that over ten thousand New Taiwan dollars had been stolen from the wallet, urging the public to check their belongings in the vehicle before leaving their scooters.

The Taichung City Police Bureau’s Second Precinct announced today that at 6:10 PM on April 30th, they received a report from a citizen whose NT$11,000 cash had been stolen from a scooter delivery box parked in the section of Hankou Road Section 4, North District. Upon receiving the report, the police immediately launched an investigation.

After reviewing surveillance video, the police found that the 63-year-old Liu was seen in the alleyway at the time of the incident, rummaging through the storage compartments of parked scooters one by one, and then stealing the cash from the wallet in the delivery box of the incident scooter. The police have notified Liu to appear for questioning, and after police interrogation, the entire case will be referred to the Taichung District Prosecutors Office for investigation on suspicion of theft under the Criminal Code.

The police remind the public that motorcycle delivery boxes are mostly storage spaces that can be easily opened, so it is crucial not to store cash or valuables in them. The police will also continue to strengthen patrols and crackdowns to safeguard the public's property. (Edited by Chen Ren-hua) 1150502
