President Arrives in Eswatini for State Visit; DPP: Taiwan Has the Right to Engage with the World

Taipei, May 2nd (CNA) – President Lai Ching-te arrived in the African diplomatic ally Eswatini today to commence a state visit. Wu Tze-chung, spokesperson for the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), stated this evening that Taiwan has the right to engage with the world and exercise its fundamental rights as an international member.

President Lai's visit to the Kingdom of Eswatini, an African diplomatic ally, was originally scheduled for April 22nd, but was urgently postponed due to Chinese interference. Later, Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (Lin Chia-lung) was appointed as the President's special envoy to attend Eswatini's "Double Celebrations" national festivities. King Mswati III of the Kingdom of Eswatini had also previously appointed Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla as his special envoy to meet President Lai in Taiwan.

Regarding President Lai's successful state visit to Eswatini today, Wu Tze-chung stated this evening that Taiwan has the right to engage with the world and exercise its fundamental rights as an international member.

Wu Tze-chung added that the DPP expresses gratitude to all international allies who have assisted and shown support for Taiwan during this period, and pays tribute to the hardworking frontline diplomatic and national security personnel.
