(Central News Agency reporter Huang Yu-ching, Pingtung County, 2nd) Pingtung's annual tourism spectacle, the Pingtung Bluefin Tuna Cultural Tourism Season, officially kicked off. The inaugural ocean concert featured singers Sun Shu-mei, Dai Ailing, and others, attracting over 10,000 people to Donggang tonight.
Pingtung County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi attended the ocean concert, which saw singers Sun Shu-mei, Dai Ailing, Hung Wei-che, Kuo Chia-yi, and the band Cao Tun Gu Zi perform in rotation, showcasing their immense popularity and vocal prowess.
Magistrate Chou Chun-mi stated that this year's "First Tuna" was caught by Captain Hung Fu-chia of the Liuchiu-registered fishing vessel "Fu Yu Ching No. 2" and jointly purchased by "Jia Zhen Seafood Restaurant" and "Penghu Square Co., Ltd." The bluefin tuna weighed 190 kilograms and fetched a historical high unit price of NT$10,600 per kilogram, with a total price exceeding NT$2.01 million, demonstrating the top-tier value and market competitiveness of Pingtung bluefin tuna. Plaques were awarded to congratulate and thank local businesses for their practical support of the fishermen.
Chou Chun-mi said that since the capture of the "First Tuna," over 233 bluefin tuna have been caught this season, indicating stable catches and excellent quality. Entering its 26th year, the Pingtung Bluefin Tuna Cultural Tourism Season continues to integrate agricultural and fisheries industries, ecological conservation, and tourism resources with innovative thinking. This year's event will run until July 5th, offering a rich and diverse program from music performances, market experiences to local banquets, with continuous highlights, welcoming the public to experience the charm of the ocean at the southernmost tip of the country.
The Pingtung County Government's Department of Communications and International Affairs stated in a press release that this year's theme is "Grand Tuna Artisan Spirit," inviting local designers to create vibrant and distinct character images by combining Donggang's "Three Treasures"—bluefin tuna, cherry shrimp, and mullet roe—with three artisan roles: fishermen, fishmongers, and chefs, showcasing rich local cultural heritage and creative energy.
The press release explained that a "Donggang Three Treasures Keychain" redemption event for purchases is also launched this year, leveraging added design value and consumer incentives to attract crowds and boost sales. In terms of tourism promotion, various travel packages are offered in collaboration with High-Speed Rail holidays.
The Department of Communications also mentioned that upcoming events are equally exciting, including the "Liuchiu Music Festival" in Liuchiu Township on May 9th, the "Gourmet Promotion Banquet" on June 6th, the "Grand Tuna Market" from June 13th to 14th, and the grand finale "Classic Night" on June 27th, connecting music, food, and tourism experiences.
