(Central News Agency reporter Huang Yu-Ching, Pingtung County, 2nd) A mountaineering accident occurred today in the Beidawu Mountain area of Pingtung. A woman surnamed Liu, along with two companions, was walking in the dark early this morning when she accidentally slipped and fell about 6 meters down a slope, becoming unconscious and unable to move. Firefighters rushed to the rescue, airlifted the injured person, and transported her to Kaohsiung E-Da Hospital.

The Pingtung County Fire Department stated that at 4:12 AM today, they received a report that a group of three people was mountaineering, and one person accidentally slipped and fell about 6 meters down a slope on the way from Beidawu trailhead in Taiwu Township towards Jiufawan. The Taiwu, Laiyi, Chaozhou, Neipu, and Wandan brigades, along with the special search and rescue team, dispatched a total of 8 vehicles and 14 personnel for the rescue.

The Fire Department pointed out that rescue personnel made contact with the injured person, a 55-year-old woman surnamed Liu, at 7:52 AM and completed preliminary assessment and first aid treatment. As the injured person was unconscious, a helicopter airlift was immediately requested. At 8:16 AM, the injured person was pulled up. At 10:36 AM, she was transported to the airlift point, and at 11:19 AM, the helicopter arrived at the special search and rescue team's base, from where she was transferred by Changzhi brigade ambulance to Kaohsiung E-Da Hospital for treatment.

The Pingtung Special Search and Rescue Team told a CNA reporter that according to her companions, the three people came from Kaohsiung to hike. At the time of the incident, they were walking in the dark with headlamps. It is suspected that Ms. Liu accidentally fell due to slippery footing. They called out but her location was unknown until dawn when she was spotted in the grass. Rescue personnel's preliminary assessment indicated that Ms. Liu had fluid leaking from her ears and no obvious external injuries, but both her hands and feet were numb and she could not move on her own. She was still able to converse during the rescue, and rescuers used a soft stretcher to pull her out. (Editor: Li Heng-Shan) 1150502
