(Central News Agency reporter Li Ya-wen, Taipei, 2nd) China's May Day holiday has brought a surge in travelers, and the Hangzhou Public Security Bureau has deployed traffic management robots in key areas such as the West Lake scenic spot. These robots perform tasks such as giving directions and warning against violations, allowing the freed-up police force to concentrate on work requiring human judgment and emergency response.

China is currently in the midst of the May Day holiday (1st to 5th), with a large influx of travelers across various regions. Traffic diversion and crowd guidance have become key tasks for maintaining local road order.

According to The Paper, the Hangzhou Public Security Bureau has formed a traffic management robot squadron named 'Hangjing Zhixing,' consisting of 15 robots. They perform tasks such as warning against violations by non-motorized vehicles (e.g., bicycles) and pedestrians, directing traffic, and providing tourist inquiries and directions. They are deployed at key intersections in urban areas such as Shangcheng, Gongshu, Xihu, and Binjiang.

Traditional traffic maintenance personnel had to perform repetitive tasks such as shouting, blowing whistles, and giving warnings. With the collaboration of robots, these basic tasks are effectively replaced. The freed-up police force can then concentrate on tasks that require more human judgment and emergency response, such as rapid accident handling, investigation of key violations, and identification of safety hazards.

This traffic management robot squadron participated in traffic maintenance tasks during the West Lake Half Marathon in March and the Hangzhou Women's Half Marathon in April, and is again deployed during the May Day holiday. In the West Lake scenic area, the primary demand is for tourist inquiries and directions, and the core function of these traffic management robots is to respond to tourist inquiry needs.

According to The Paper's report, tourists can simply approach a traffic management robot, click the 'I want to speak' function on its interactive screen, and ask questions. The robots are equipped with a large language model for voice, which can quickly identify requests and, combined with real-time road conditions and geographical location, plan the best walking and public transport routes for tourists.

Traffic management robots deployed at key urban intersections primarily serve to observe illegal behaviors of non-motorized vehicles and pedestrians. They are equipped with high-performance visual recognition algorithms to intelligently monitor intersections 24/7 for multiple targets, capable of identifying traffic violations such as non-motorized vehicles stopping beyond the line or riders not wearing helmets.

Once a violation is identified, the traffic management robot will immediately issue real-time warnings and alerts through its directional voice system. For those who fail to correct their behavior after three reminders, the violation information will be recorded and sent to the branch's early warning center, forming an automated management mechanism.

These traffic management robots have a built-in library of standard traffic command gestures and can perform traffic direction actions such as going straight, stopping, turning left, and others. In synchronization with traffic signal lights, they provide passage instructions to drivers and pedestrians. (Editor: Chen Kai-yu) 1150502
