(Taipei, May 1, Central News Agency reporter Wen Kuei-hsiang) Former President Tsai Ing-wen today joined fellow hikers to experience the Xueshan Mountain Range Grand Traverse. Tsai said that this route starts from Sanjiao Cape, follows the ridge line to Xueshan Main Peak, ascending from sea level all the way to 3886 meters. If existing routes can be connected and enhanced, driving related industries, then a mountain path can become a system, a climbing trip can become an industry, and a traverse can become a new cultural brand for Taiwan.
Tsai Ing-wen posted on Facebook that she woke up early today to meet fellow hikers and climb a section of the Xueshan Mountain Range Grand Traverse, starting from Sanjiao Cape. Her hiking companions hope to fully connect this mountain path, making it an internationally recognized, nationally representative long-distance trail, and also an epic journey for its own citizens.
She said that starting from Sanjiao Cape, the route follows the ridge line all the way to Xueshan Main Peak, ascending from zero altitude to 3886 meters. This is a very spectacular route, traversing from ancient trails, stream valleys, and forests, all the way up to high mountains. The landscape changes are very rich, with different scenery and challenges at each section. Walking on the ridge line, the view is expansive, allowing one to directly feel the grandeur of Taiwan's mountains and forests.
Tsai Ing-wen stated that this path is not only about beautiful scenery; it also connects the coast, mountain villages, indigenous communities, and high mountains, making it a route with great depth and layers.
She added that the Xueshan Mountain Range not only boasts astonishing vertical ecology and natural landscapes but also holds deeper significance for northern Taiwan. This "roof of northern Taiwan" covers the Taipei Basin and Lanyang Plain, witnessing the historical activities of various ethnic groups along its route, including the Kavalan, Atayal, Basay, Han Chinese, Spanish, Dutch, and Japanese.
Tsai Ing-wen emphasized that if existing routes can be connected and enhanced, driving local service industries such as supply, shuttle, and accommodation along the way, then a mountain path can become a system, a climbing trip can become an industry, and a traverse can become a new cultural brand for Taiwan.
She stated that many people in Taiwan's mountaineering community are already dedicated to this cause, and she deeply feels their passion. She recommends everyone to experience this wonderful mountain forest route at their own pace and discover the beauty of Taiwan. (Edited by Wan Shu-chang) 1150501
