Central News Agency Reporter Li Jian-Zhong, Taipei, 1st -- In the Thomas & Uber Cup Badminton Team Tournament held in Denmark, Taiwan's women's team faced South Korea, led by world No. 1 An Se-young, in the Uber Cup quarterfinals today. Although Lin Hsiang-Ti secured one point in women's singles, the team ultimately lost 1-3, missing out on a spot in the semifinals.

The Thomas & Uber Cup Badminton Team Tournament is composed of the Thomas Cup for men's teams and the Uber Cup for women's teams, held separately at the same time and venue.

Taiwan's women's badminton team advanced as the second-ranked team in the group stage but unfortunately drew a tough opponent in South Korea, a two-time champion in the event's history. In the first women's singles match, Chiu Pin-Chian faced world No. 1 An Se-young. After 38 minutes, Chiu Pin-Chian lost 7-21, 8-21.

In the second women's doubles match, Hsieh Pei-Shan and Hung En-Tzu battled against Lee So-hee and Lee Yeon-woo. Although they won the first game 21-15, they committed too many unforced errors from the second game onwards, losing 8-21, 17-21, putting Taiwan in a 0-2 deficit.

Fortunately, in the third women's singles match, Lin Hsiang-Ti, facing Kim Ga-eun whom she had never beaten before, relied on her excellent movement and drop shots to stage a comeback from a 4-8 deficit in the middle of the first game, launching an 11-3 attack to win 21-15.

In the second game, Lin Hsiang-Ti also showed her fighting spirit. From a 7-12 deficit, she launched a 13-2 run to take the lead and, after securing six match points, won 21-17. This was the only victory for the Taiwan women's team.

In the fourth women's doubles match, Taiwan's Hsu Ya-Ching and Hsu Yin-Hui unfortunately lost 17-21, 13-21 in straight games, confirming Taiwan's elimination in the quarterfinals once again. Since reaching the semifinals in 2006, the Taiwan women's team has not been able to repeat that feat in the Uber Cup. (Editor: Guan Zhong-Wei) 1150501
