Central News Agency (Reporter Ye Zhen, Taoyuan, 1st) A 35-year-old man surnamed Chu in Taoyuan City threw a homemade gasoline bomb at the Puren Police Station of the Zhongli Precinct, Taoyuan City Police Department, late last year. The Taoyuan District Court today sentenced Chu to 3 years and 8 months in prison for attempted arson of a building where people were present. The verdict can be appealed.

According to the prosecution and police investigation, in the early morning of December 29 last year, Chu made a gasoline bomb by filling a plastic bottle with gasoline and using a towel as a fuse. After lighting it, he threw it at the Puren Police Station and then fled on a motorcycle. Police extinguished the fire and arrested him within two hours, sending him for prosecution. The Taoyuan District Prosecutor's Office indicted him for public endangerment.

During the trial at the Taoyuan District Court, Chu confessed to the crime, stating that he was angry and frustrated after being searched by police officers in another case, which led him to make the gasoline bomb and throw it at the police station.

The court considered that although there was no widespread fire, the splashing sparks still posed a great threat to the lives, bodies, and property rights of others, seriously endangering public safety, and infringing upon the solemnity of police agencies in performing their duties. Today, Chu was sentenced to 3 years and 8 months in prison for attempted arson of a building where people were present. The verdict can be appealed. (Editor: Lin Shu-hui) 1150501
