(Central News Agency reporter Chang Jung-hsiang, Tainan, 1st) A 92-year-old woman surnamed Yeh in Tainan City's West Central District died after her 84-year-old sister, who was caring for her while bedridden, allegedly killed her at her request due to unbearable pain. The case has drawn significant public attention. The Tainan District Prosecutors Office announced tonight that the body examination has been completed and an autopsy will be scheduled to confirm the cause of death.

The Tainan District Prosecutors Office told the Central News Agency reporter tonight that after the police transferred the sister on suspicion of murder, the prosecutor questioned her and then applied to the Tainan District Court for detention, citing the seriousness of the crime and the risk of destroying evidence or fleeing.

The Tainan District Court stated that the sister is suspected of committing murder, the criminal suspicion is significant, and there is a risk of fleeing and destroying evidence. Ms. Yeh also admitted to the crime, so detention was ordered.

The Tainan City Police Department's Second Precinct stated that after questioning, they sent the sister for prosecution on suspicion of murder. However, considering that the sister surrendered after committing the crime and is elderly, with no risk of collusion or destroying evidence, they did not request preventive detention from the prosecutor at that time.

The Tainan City Government Health Bureau stated that they received a report on the afternoon of April 27. After a special visit and assessment on the afternoon of April 28, the Health Bureau activated a service intervention mechanism and would actively arrange long-term care services. However, the sister at the time hoped to first arrange hospitalization and hire a caregiver for assistance, and then connect with institutional respite services after discharge. Unexpectedly, the tragedy occurred just a few hours later.

Police investigation revealed that the sisters lived together in an apartment in the West Central District. The younger sister cared for the elder sister after she became bedridden. The elder sister felt unbearable pain and saw her sister struggling with care, so she asked to die on the evening of April 28. The younger sister then used a kitchen knife and a fruit knife to commit the act, and called the police to surrender around 1 AM on April 29. (Editor: Lee Hsi-chang) 1150501
