The Directorate General of Highways reminds that traffic control will be implemented from May 6 to June 30 for construction on the Daqingshui Tunnel section at 159.4 km of Suhua Highway, which was recently damaged by a rockfall.
According to statistics from the Eastern District Maintenance Engineering Branch of the Directorate General of Highways, as of 10 AM on the first day of the Labor Day holiday, the southbound traffic volume from Yilan to Hualien on the Suhua Highway Corridor was approximately 4,400 vehicles, while northbound traffic from Hualien to Yilan was about 1,100 vehicles. It is estimated that an additional 6,000 southbound vehicles are still expected.
In conjunction with the three-day Labor Day holiday, the release times for construction zones on Taiwan Provincial Highway 8, the Central Cross-Island Highway, have been adjusted. The section from Guanyuan to Tianxiang will be open for two-way traffic from 7 AM to 4:30 PM, with night closures implemented from 4:30 PM onwards.
The section from Tianxiang to Taroko Gorge on the Central Cross-Island Highway will suspend construction from 7 AM to 5:30 PM, allowing two-way traffic, with night closures from 6 PM onwards. On May 4, it will revert to the usual five daily releases for traffic control during daylight hours.
