Putin Proposes May 9 Ceasefire, Zelenskyy Requests More Information from US

(Kyiv, Central News Agency, comprehensive foreign reports, 30th) Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed a ceasefire during the "Victory Day" celebrations on May 9 marking the end of World War II. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy today stated that Kyiv would request more information from Washington regarding this proposal.

According to AFP, Putin proposed the idea of a temporary ceasefire during a phone call with US President Donald Trump, which the Kremlin said Trump supported.

The Russia-Ukraine war has lasted over four years. Since his return to the White House last year, Trump has been trying to broker a permanent ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine but has not yet secured any significant concessions from Russia.

Zelenskyy posted on social media that he has instructed his team to gather more details and emphasized that Ukraine's ultimate goal is to end the war.

He said in a statement: "We will clarify what this actually means, whether it's to provide a few hours of security for the Moscow parade or if there are other arrangements."

He added: "We propose a long-term ceasefire, reliable and guaranteed security for our people, and lasting peace. Ukraine is ready to work towards this goal in any dignified and effective way."

The highlight of Russia's Victory Day celebrations is usually a large military parade showcasing military strength, personally presided over by Putin, with troops marching through Moscow's Red Square.

However, Russia announced this week that, considering potential retaliatory strikes from Ukraine, the Victory Day parade scale would be reduced, and no military weapons would be displayed.

In recent months, the Ukrainian military has intensified long-range strikes against energy and military targets deep behind the front lines and has frequently launched drone attacks on the Russian capital.
