Central News Agency (CNA) Penghu County, May 1st. With the tourism season kicking off, the Penghu County Government today held a large-scale spring cleanup event at Longmen Beach. Over 600 people, including residents, braved the strong winds to collect marine debris, clearing a total of 6,428 kilograms in just over an hour.

The Penghu County Government's "Action with You, Earth with Power" spring cleanup event was held today at Longmen Beach. County Councilor Lin Chang-an, KMT Councilor Wu Cheng-chieh, Huxi Township Mayor Chen Chen-chung, Environmental Protection Bureau Director Tsai Chi-hsien, along with 18 public and private organizations and community residents from across the county, totaling over 600 people, participated in the cleanup, demonstrating their determination to protect the marine environment through action.

Tsai Chi-hsien stated that Penghu's Longmen Houwan is located in the Penghu Waterway, and every year, with the fierce northeast monsoon, a large amount of marine debris, of all kinds, pollutes and covers the "crescent-shaped" coastline from time to time, tarnishing the beautiful bay. The Environmental Protection Bureau conducted small-scale cleanups in March and April this year, but it was still unable to overcome the nightmare of increasing marine debris accumulation. Today, in response to Earth Day, various local sectors were mobilized and divided into 8 small groups to conduct a large-scale cleanup along the coast piled with marine debris. The collected waste was sorted on-site, aiming to restore the beautiful beach to its former cleanliness.

The Penghu Environmental Protection Bureau stated that in just over an hour during today's spring cleanup event, a total of 6,428 kilograms of marine waste was cleared, of which 2,420 kilograms were recyclable resources. The Huxi Township Office assisted with the transportation, allowing the beautiful bay to reappear. (Editor: Chen Jen-hua) 1150501.
