(Central News Agency reporter Huang Qiaowen, Taipei, May 1st) Today marks the first day of the Labor Day holiday. As of noon, real-time traffic conditions show that the speed on National Freeway 3 Nangang Link Southbound, Huandong-Nangang section, is only 4 kilometers per hour. The National Freeway Bureau (NFB) anticipates that seven sections, including National Freeway 5 Southbound Nangang System-Toucheng, will experience congestion in the afternoon, suggesting that those traveling southbound on National Freeway 5 depart after dusk.

This year's Labor Day holiday spans three days, and the national freeways saw an influx of travelers on the first day. The Ministry of Transportation and Communications' National Freeway Bureau issued a press release stating that as of 11:00 AM, the total traffic volume on national freeways was 39.4 million vehicle-kilometers. The estimated traffic volume for today is 115 million vehicle-kilometers, which is 1.2 times the average daily volume for weekdays, still within the expected range.

The NFB pointed out that minor car rear-end collisions occurred on national freeways in the morning, including at 8:43 AM on National Freeway 1 Southbound at the 225.2-kilometer mark, at 8:59 AM on National Freeway 3 Northbound at the 22.45-kilometer mark, and at 9:22 AM on National Freeway 1 Southbound at the 164.7-kilometer mark. All these incidents led to vehicle backups, affecting overall traffic flow.

As of 12:42 PM, according to real-time traffic conditions, sections including National Freeway 3 Nangang Link Southbound Huandong-Nangang, National Freeway 3A Eastbound Wanfang-Muzha, and National Freeway 3 Northbound Xindian-Muzha Rest Area showed "purple" (indicating speeds below 20 kilometers per hour). Among these, the speed on National Freeway 3 Nangang Link Southbound Huandong-Nangang was only 4 kilometers per hour.

The NFB predicts that the key congested sections in the afternoon will be: National Freeway 1 Southbound elevated Airport System-Yangmei End, Yangmei-Toufen, Changhua System-Puyuan System, and Northbound Yuanshan-Dahua System; National Freeway 3 Southbound Zhonghe-Guansi; National Freeway 5 Southbound Nangang System-Toucheng; and National Freeway 10 Westbound Renwu to Zuoying End. It is recommended that users traveling southbound on National Freeway 5 depart after 5 PM to save valuable time.

The NFB urges the public to fasten seatbelts while driving, keep hands on the steering wheel, avoid distractions, maintain sufficient safe driving distance, always pay attention to dynamic conditions ahead, and avoid frequent lane changes to ensure driving safety. (Editor: Guan Zhongwei) 1150501
