A 25-year-old male graduate student surnamed Chen went swimming with a group of 10 friends and drowned at around 2 PM. His friends tried to rescue him but failed and called for help. When firefighters brought him ashore, he showed no signs of life.

The Pingtung County Government Fire Bureau stated that at 1:54 PM, they received a report from a citizen about a suspected drowning incident at Lion King Waterfall in Majia Township. They immediately dispatched 7 vehicles and 15 personnel from Majia, Sandimen, Special Search Team, and the First Brigade, led by First Brigade Commander Chen Kun-wu, to the scene for rescue.

Chen Kun-wu told the Central News Agency reporter that the 25-year-old male Chen was a graduate student from Kaohsiung and came to swim with 10 friends from the same school. After Chen drowned, he became exhausted, and his friends tried to rescue him but were almost dragged into the water themselves, so they immediately called for help. He pointed out that drowning incidents occur almost every year at this location, and the entrance has been fenced off by the landowner, urging the public not to trespass and swim there.
