(Central News Agency reporter Lin Chiao-lien, Kaohsiung, May 1) Today is May Day Labor Day. The Kaohsiung City Tourism Bureau announced that it participated for the first time in the "2025 2nd Taiwan LGBTQ+ Friendly Workplace Index" evaluation and received certification across five major dimensions: workplace commitment, systems and benefits, internal support systems, education and training, and external influence.
The Tourism Bureau stated in a press release today that this evaluation was jointly organized by the Taiwan LGBTQ+ Hotline Association and the Taiwan Rainbow Rights Platform Association, attracting 63 enterprises and organizations nationwide, with 59 receiving certification. In addition to continuously improving internal systems, the Tourism Bureau also extends the concept of gender equality to tourism policies and the industry chain.
Tourism Bureau Director Kao Min-lin stated that gender equality should start from workplace culture. In recent years, the city government has strengthened institutional support through measures such as establishing a dedicated gender equality unit, creating mechanisms to prevent workplace bullying, and promoting gender-friendly policies; at the same time, it fosters a friendly atmosphere in the office environment and implements equal benefits regardless of gender and sexual orientation, providing a safe and supportive working environment.
The Tourism Bureau stated that Kaohsiung launched the nation's first "Gender-Friendly Accommodation Guidance and Certification Program," which has guided 60 accommodation providers and received recognition with the Executive Yuan Golden Heart Award for "Gender Equality Innovation." In addition, gender-friendly restrooms and nursing rooms are installed in scenic areas, and free sanitary products are provided at tourist service centers, addressing the issue of period poverty.
The Tourism Bureau pointed out that in addition to strengthening internal education and training and regularly organizing gender equality-related courses, it also expands its influence through urban brand marketing, including launching gender-friendly tourism zones, planning rainbow attractions and tours, and demonstrating a diverse and inclusive image in international promotions, driving tourism and the development of the "pink economy." For example, during the Kaohsiung LGBTQ+ Pride Parade, the hotel occupancy rate once exceeded 90%.
The Tourism Bureau emphasized that in the future, it will continue to deepen gender-friendly policies, combine industry resources to create a more complete travel and employment environment, making gender equality not just a concept but also part of the city's competitiveness, continuously showcasing Kaohsiung's inclusiveness and vitality to the international community.
