Foreign Couple Attacked by Stray Dogs While Cycling in Tainan, Found Unharmed in Windbreak Forest After Escaping

(Central News Agency reporter Zhang Rong-Hua, Tainan, 1st) A foreign couple, while cycling YouBike on Chengxi Street in Tainan City's Annan District last night, was "attacked" by stray dogs. After reporting the incident, they fled into a windbreak forest where they were eventually found by police and firefighters, fortunately unharmed, after a false alarm.

The Third Precinct of the Tainan City Police Department told Central News Agency today that the foreign couple, a Portuguese man and a Japanese woman, were staying in Anping District. Last night around 6 PM, they were riding YouBike towards Annan District when they were chased and "attacked" by stray dogs on Chengxi Street, prompting them to dial 110.

Upon receiving the report, police used mobile phone positioning to confirm the location was around the Chengxi Incinerator. They interviewed security guards and personnel at the scene but did not find the callers. Considering the remote location near the sea, police then notified the fire department to assist in the search. As the emergency call was from an international number and made entirely in English, foreign affairs personnel were also dispatched to assist with translation.

After a blanket search by police and firefighters, the foreign couple was found at 8:10 PM last night in a windbreak forest behind the Chengxi Radar Station, about 1 kilometer from the reported location.
