(Central News Agency reporter Huang Chiao-wen, Taipei, May 1) Due to prolonged contact lens wear easily causing dry eyes and discomfort, following China Airlines and Tigerair Taiwan, EVA Air announced today that starting immediately, flight attendants are permitted to wear glasses while on duty, and can choose black leather casual shoes that match their uniforms.
Due to the nature of their shifts and time zone differences, flight attendants may experience irregular menstrual cycles or face occupational injuries such as herniated discs and varicose veins. Prolonged wear of contact lenses can also easily lead to dry eyes or discomfort.
EVA Air recently issued an internal announcement, relaxing regulations on wearing glasses during duty. EVA Air stated that starting immediately, cabin crew members are allowed to wear glasses while on duty, and can also choose black leather casual shoes that match their uniform and project an elegant image, prioritizing safety and comfort.
Before EVA Air, China Airlines had already allowed cabin crew to wear framed glasses on duty starting December 4 last year. The glasses styles were limited to simple monochrome, metal frames, or rimless designs, using transparent lenses as a principle, and backup glasses were required to be carried. Starting from New Year's Day this year, cabin crew were also allowed to wear self-purchased black sports casual shoes during flights.
Tigerair Taiwan is also continuously paying attention to the comfort of its employees during duty. Starting from January this year, cabin crew are allowed to wear glasses on duty. Regarding wearing sports shoes, it will be coordinated with the new uniform project plan. (Edited by: Lung Po-an)1150501
