(Central News Agency, Taipei, 1st) A car ramming incident occurred in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China, this evening, where a car suddenly accelerated and rammed into pedestrians crossing the road in a busy area. The driver then continued his rampage like a hunter, hitting a motorcycle at high speed. The assailant was eventually forced to stop and got out of the car holding a sharp knife. The incident resulted in 1 death and 11 injuries, and the 31-year-old perpetrator, surnamed Li, was arrested on the spot.
Multiple videos shared on the X platform by "Teacher Li is not your teacher" showed that around 5 PM on the 1st, on a road near the Yintai City commercial district on Tianfu 4th Street in Chengdu's High-tech Zone, a pink-silver car waiting at a red light in the inner lane suddenly accelerated and turned right after the green light, ramming into a large group of pedestrians crossing the road, leaving many lying on the ground.
The footage showed at least 6 people lying motionless after the collision, with eyewitnesses stating that there were children among them, and the scene was horrific.
The car then fled the scene at high speed, continuing its rampage like a hunter, reportedly driving for at least two kilometers, hitting anyone in its path. Videos showed the car later driving onto the sidewalk against traffic, then backing out and ramming into a motorcycle carrying two people at high speed. One person was thrown off and fell to the ground, while the other person and the motorcycle were pushed by the car.
Eyewitnesses stated that the perpetrator's vehicle was eventually forced to stop by several brave drivers. The assailant got out of the car holding a sharp knife and talking on his phone, which was chilling.
After this indiscriminate attack caused numerous casualties, Chinese internet censorship authorities, as usual, completely deleted all related images and messages from social media, sparking dissatisfaction among Chinese netizens, who continued to repost and criticize the authorities for trying to cover up the incident again.
