Hsinchu, May 1 (CNA reporter Chang Chien-chung) As Acer approaches its 50th anniversary, founder Stan Shih today posted that Acer's greatest contribution and value has been cultivating many talents for Taiwan, creating intangible and hidden value, and bringing long-term impact. Acer will continue to build a stage for the younger generation, allowing young people to make greater contributions to Taiwan and the international community.
Shih pointed out that Acer can be described as the cradle of talent cultivation for Taiwan's high-tech industry, training many outstanding managers, including Shih Chung-tang, Tai Chung-ho, and Lei Hui, who were selected as Ten Outstanding Young Persons, as well as political leaders such as Taoyuan Mayor Chang San-cheng, former Minister of Economic Affairs Teng Chen-chung, and former Taichung City Deputy Mayor Chang Kuang-yao. ASUS Chairman Jonney Shih and Pegatron Chairman T.H. Tung also successfully started their own businesses after working at Acer.
Shih said that Acer was founded in 1976 by five founding partners with NT$1 million, mainly to seize the opportunity that microprocessors would bring about the second industrial revolution, hoping that Chinese people would not miss this opportunity.
Shih stated that at that time, there were no resources, the market for microprocessors was not yet mature, and Taiwan's international competitiveness urgently needed a breakthrough. Acer therefore took R&D and brand marketing as long-term breakthroughs.
To promote the domestic microprocessor market, Shih pointed out that Acer initially positioned itself as the "gardener of microprocessors" and has always been committed to breaking through bottlenecks caused by traditional culture, establishing an environment and organizational culture conducive to the development of the high-tech industry.
Acer also actively gives back to society and cultivates talent through the Acer Foundation, including early initiatives such as the Long Teng Thesis Award, Long Teng Smile Competition, and Acer Digital Creation Competition, providing a stage for many junior high school students, university teachers, and students to showcase their creativity and entrepreneurship, cultivating many outstanding talents, such as generative artist Wu Che-yu and digital artist Chang Henry.
Shih said that today, the Pan-Acer Group has 43 listed companies. After Acer Chairman Jason Chen, AUO Chairman Paul Peng, Qisda Chairman Peter Chen, and Wistron Chairman Simon Lin took over, they have all become important leaders in the industry, continuing to create value for society in various fields.
Shih stated that Acer's greatest value to Taiwan is not how much money it has made, but how many talents it has cultivated for Taiwanese society, especially the intangible and hidden value created by these talents. Acer will continue to build a stage for the younger generation, allowing young people to grow and gain experience, and to make greater contributions to Taiwan and the international community.
