(Central News Agency reporter Wang Bao-er, Taipei, 30th) Transforming retired materials into daily necessities, Taipower Cultural & Creative will launch its special exhibition "60Hz STEREO/RETRO," showcasing past remanufacturing achievements such as retired transformer boxes and sediment from Sun Moon Lake, and also presenting the latest product: retired electricity meters transformed into tableware.
Since 2018, Taipower Cultural & Creative has successively launched four retired material remanufacturing projects. The preview of the annual special exhibition "60Hz STEREO/RETRO: After Kilowatts ∞ Electric Echoes" was held today, bringing the collaborative result of Taipower Cultural & Creative and design team Green Object: "Let the memory of every kilowatt return to the dining table."
"Let the memory of every kilowatt return to the dining table" is a project to regenerate retired electricity meters. It involves disassembling the meters, officially called "watt-hour meters," to obtain their outer glass covers, which are then re-melted and remanufactured into "Wawa Bowls" and "Qianqian Cups." The names of the cups and bowls come from the electricity calculation units "watt" and "kilowatt."
For the first wave of "Wawa Bowls," 5,000 electricity meters were used. The design features ingenious details, such as laser engravings resembling the pointer dial of an electricity meter on the stainless steel plate that can serve as a lid for the "Wawa Bowl." The text "C003" originates from the equipment material number of the electricity meter in the power system.
Different from previous sales models, Taipower Cultural & Creative this time attempted to launch the "Retired Electricity Meter Remanufacturing Project" on a crowdfunding platform, which has already met its goal after being launched today. Taipower Cultural & Creative stated in a press release, "Through crowdfunding, we hope to let more people see the trajectory of Taiwan's energy development from power equipment and materials. The significance of this crowdfunding event lies in gaining public support for the new life of retired materials and the brand concept."
In addition, the exhibition will also feature a fully handmade audio system created from retired Taipower parts, designed by the YANKO AUDIO LAB team. The music is composed by the "Chao Dian Bar&RecordStore" team, who conducted field recordings deep inside power plants, extracting the white noise and mechanical breathing of operating units to reconstruct electronic music pieces. Limited guided tour activities will be held during the special exhibition.
The Taipower Cultural & Creative annual special exhibition "60Hz STEREO/RETRO: After Kilowatts ∞ Electric Echoes" will be held from May 2nd to May 31st at the Taipower Heping East Road Office Auditorium (No. 41, Heping East Road, Da'an District, Taipei City). (Editor: Chang Ya-ching) 1150430
