(Central News Agency reporter Su Mu-chun, Taichung, 30th) A former patrol officer, surnamed Tseng, from the Rinan Police Station of Taichung's Dajia Precinct, was indicted for corruption on the 28th after allegedly embezzling a God of Wealth doll worth NT$600 from seized claw machines during an investigation into illegal gambling at a selection vending machine establishment early last year.

Officer Tseng, formerly a patrol officer at the Rinan Police Station of the Dajia Precinct, Taichung City Police Bureau, has been suspended from duty following the incident. The indictment from the Taiwan Taichung District Prosecutors Office states that in December 2024, the Dajia Precinct received a public complaint alleging that selection vending machines at the 'Happy Doll House' store in its jurisdiction violated regulations such as the Electronic Game Arcade Business Management Act. Consequently, Officer Tseng and others were arranged to conduct an inspection.

Upon arrival, police found five selection vending machines in the store that involved 'gambling elements' (uncertainty). The manager, surnamed Wu, was notified to be present, and the five machines, along with 10 dolls and other items, were seized on the spot and transported to the police station's official motorcycle parking shed.

On the morning of January 3, 2025, Officer Tseng walked to the official motorcycle parking shed, reached into one of the seized selection vending machines, took out a God of Wealth doll worth NT$600, discarded its packaging box on a pile of items next to the parking shed, and then embezzled the doll for himself.

Another police officer discovered the shortage of seized items the next day. After reviewing surveillance footage, it was found that Officer Tseng had taken the doll. His supervisor then notified Officer Tseng to return the doll to its original place. However, because the original packaging box had already been collected by recyclers, Officer Tseng first put the doll into a pink rectangular box and then placed it back into the selection vending machine.

Officer Tseng then went to purchase a boxed God of Wealth doll. After returning to the official motorcycle parking shed, he replaced the seized God of Wealth doll with the newly purchased one and took the seized doll back to his residence. Following an investigation, police dispatched personnel to Officer Tseng's residence and recovered the embezzled God of Wealth doll. After police questioning, Officer Tseng was sent for prosecution on charges of violating the Anti-Corruption Act.

After investigation, the prosecutor, based on witness testimonies, seized evidence, and surveillance footage, indicted Officer Tseng for corruption on the 28th. The prosecutor considered that Officer Tseng confessed to the crime during the investigation, voluntarily surrendered all illicit gains, and the circumstances were relatively minor, thus recommending a reduced sentence to the court.
