(Yilan County, April 30, Central News Agency reporter Shen Ju-feng) Taipingshan National Forest Recreation Area in Yilan, where the access road was damaged by heavy rains last April, affecting traffic, has confirmed road safety after phased repairs during a partial closure. The entire area will reopen starting May 1.

The Yilan Branch of the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency, Ministry of Agriculture, stated today that the access road to Taipingshan National Forest Recreation Area, "Yilan Provincial Highway No. 1," at the 7-kilometer mark, suffered severe roadbed erosion due to heavy rains on April 30 last year. Although emergency repairs were made, traffic was limited to single-lane two-way.

The Yilan Branch pointed out that to continue with the second phase of roadbed reconstruction, the area was partially closed from March 3 to April 30 this year. Only the lower-altitude Jiuzize Hot Spring area was open, while other popular attractions such as Taipingshan Villa and Cueifong Lake were temporarily closed, and the Bong Bong Train also stopped carrying passengers.

The Yilan Branch announced that after phased repairs, the disaster-stricken section of "Yilan Provincial Highway No. 1" has been confirmed safe for traffic, and Taipingshan Recreation Area will resume full operations starting May 1. After the full reopening, Kuo-Kuang Motor Transport special buses will resume service to Taipingshan Villa, and the park will revert to its operating hours of "opening at 4 AM on holidays and 6 AM on weekdays."
