(Central News Agency reporter Yeh Su-ping, Taipei, April 30) President Lai Ching-te met with former Japanese Digital Minister and House of Representatives member Taira Masaaki today. The President stated that in the face of authoritarian expansion and red supply chain challenges, Taiwan and Japan will continue to steadfastly join hands, enhance each other's economic resilience and competitiveness, and jointly safeguard regional peace, stability, and prosperity.

The President noted in his speech that Taira Masaaki, who served as Digital Minister, has long cultivated Japan's digital policy and technological development, and has a deep understanding of the complementary advantages of Taiwan-Japan digital industries. The signing of the "Taiwan-Japan Digital Trade Agreement" last year marked an important milestone in bilateral cooperation. This visit by the delegation not only fully demonstrates firm support for Taiwan but also enables the joint discovery of more opportunities for Taiwan-Japan cooperation.

President Lai also thanked the Japanese government for repeatedly demonstrating its emphasis on regional peace and stability on important international occasions. For example, in March and early April this year, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi met with US President Trump and French President Macron, respectively. Both summit meetings conveyed strong concern for peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait to the international community, and such attention has played a significant role in maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

The President emphasized that in the face of China's continuous authoritarian expansion, in addition to continuously strengthening its self-defense capabilities, Taiwan is also actively strengthening cooperation with more like-minded countries. Efforts will be made collaboratively across cybersecurity, countering cognitive warfare, and enhancing overall social resilience to jointly safeguard regional peace, stability, and prosperity.

President Lai mentioned that at the economic and industrial level, to counter the low-price dumping of the red supply chain, democratic countries should cooperate more closely to jointly build trustworthy and more resilient democratic supply chains. Currently, Taiwan and Japan have already started cooperation in key strategic fields such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence. In the future, it is hoped that Taiwan and Japan can further enhance each other's economic resilience and overall competitiveness.

President Lai also looks forward to the early signing of an economic partnership agreement between Taiwan and Japan with the support of the visiting delegation members, driving vigorous industrial development and creating greater welfare for both peoples.

Taira Masaaki said that Taiwan-Japan relations are currently at their best, and there is still room for further deepening cooperation in many areas, especially in cybersecurity, where there is huge potential for bilateral cooperation. In his past role as Digital Minister, he led the construction and improvement of Japan's cybersecurity system, and therefore highly values cooperation between Taiwan and Japan in cybersecurity and responding to cognitive warfare.

Taira Masaaki expressed his hope to promote further cooperation between Taiwan and Japan in advanced industrial fields such as artificial intelligence and semiconductors, and to continuously strengthen the resilience of both supply chains. He believes this is crucial for boosting Japan's economic growth momentum, while also promoting the growth and prosperity of both Taiwan and Japan, and contributing to regional peace and stability.

Taira Masaaki also specifically mentioned that Diet member Kihara Seiji, a member of this visiting delegation to Taiwan, is a key figure in Japan's growth strategy promotion. Diet member Nishino Taisuke comes from the Kumamoto constituency where TSMC has set up its factory, and is a highly anticipated new generation legislator. (Editor: Wan Shu-chang) 1150430
