(Central News Agency, Oslo, 30th, comprehensive foreign news) Kristian Berg Harpviken, Secretary of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, stated today that a total of 287 candidates have been nominated for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, and former US President Donald Trump may be among the nominees.

Reuters reported that Harpviken stated that this year's nominations include 208 individuals and 79 organizations, with many new faces compared to last year.

Harpviken said in an interview: "Since I just took office, I am somewhat surprised by how much this list is updated every year." He has served in this position since January 2025.

He further stated that despite the increase in global conflicts and pressure on international cooperation, the Nobel Peace Prize remains highly significant.

He said: "In the era we live in, the Peace Prize is particularly important. The contributions made by all parties now are more than ever before."

Leaders from Cambodia, Israel, and Pakistan have stated that they have nominated Trump for this year's Peace Prize. If the relevant nominations were indeed submitted, they would have been completed between the spring and summer of 2025, thus meeting the deadline of January 31.

As the nomination list must be kept confidential for 50 years, these claims cannot be verified. Harpviken also declined to disclose today whether Trump has been nominated.

Nomination does not imply endorsement by the awarding institution.

In addition to committee members, thousands of people worldwide can submit nominations, including members of various governments and parliaments, incumbent heads of state, professors of history, social sciences, law, and philosophy at universities, and past Nobel Peace Prize laureates.
