(CNA reporter Tsao Ya-yen, New Taipei, 30th) A female high school student in Luzhou, New Taipei, was stalked by a man surnamed You yesterday after school. Her grandmother and the village chief intervened and were assaulted by You. Prosecutors believe You is involved in aggravated assault, stalking, and other offenses, and there is a risk of flight and repeated offenses, so they requested detention without visitation, which the New Taipei District Court approved last night.
According to the Luzhou Precinct of the New Taipei City Police Department, an 18-year-old female high school student was returning home from school yesterday afternoon around 4 PM when she was stalked by a man surnamed You. The female student called her grandmother for help. Her grandmother waited in the community and intervened, but was assaulted by You, suffering severe injuries including a broken nasal bone and a ruptured liver, and was sent to the hospital. Kuo Teng-fang, the village chief of Xinyi Village, also intervened and was assaulted, but fortunately, other eyewitnesses stopped You and subdued him.
Police officers arrived at the scene, immediately handcuffed and arrested You, and transferred him to the prosecutor's office for investigation. After further questioning yesterday, the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office determined that You was suspected of aggravated assault, assault, and violations of the Stalking Prevention Act, among other offenses. The criminal suspicion is significant, and the offenses carry a minimum sentence of five years or more imprisonment. There is a risk of flight and repeated offenses, so they requested detention without visitation, which the New Taipei District Court approved last night.
It is understood that You is not a first-time offender. Since September 2023, he has repeatedly committed 8 sexual harassment incidents against underage females in Luzhou District, including striking up conversations with female students after school, touching people's thighs in libraries, touching women's bodies on the street, and making inappropriate verbal sexual harassment in elevators. Two of the victims did not press charges, while the others filed complaints under the Sexual Harassment Prevention Act, all of which were transferred to the prosecutor's office according to law. Subsequently, You was sentenced to detention for assault and other offenses, and in March last year, he was sentenced to 120 days of detention for a case, and was released from prison in May last year.
