(Central News Agency reporter Kuan Jui-ping, Miaoli County, April 30) National Miaoli High School, which once seized the first HBL championship as a dark horse, is celebrating its 85th anniversary this year with the "Mountain City Basketball Story Special Exhibition" on tour from the Hakka Affairs Council's Hakka Culture Development Center. It hopes to pass on and promote the tenacious spirit and stories behind the glory.
The Hakka Affairs Council's Hakka Culture Development Center had organized the Mountain City Basketball Story Special Exhibition four years ago, with the theme of "Miaozih Spirit" from a local historical perspective. Through magazine illustration style combined with precious items such as trophies, old photos, and historical reports, it recreated the wonderful stories of Miaoli basketball. Many anecdotes of coaches and players interacting and working hard against difficulties showcased the tenacious spirit of Hakka youth.
Among them, the Miaoli High School men's basketball team, led by then-coach Lin Zengfu in 1988, defeated various private school powerhouses to win the first HBL championship, writing a legendary page in Miaoli basketball history.
The opening ceremony of Miaoli High School's 85th Anniversary and Mountain City Basketball Story Special Exhibition was held today, bringing together "Championship Coach" Lin Zengfu's widow Chen Nianci, former assistant coach Chen Yun-chin, and former captain Huang Wan-lung, now CEO of Taipei Taishin Mars of the Taiwan Professional Basketball League, and Lai Guohong, the current Miaoli High School basketball coach who returned to his alma mater to serve.
Huang Wan-lung shared how coach Lin Zengfu used Hakka to convey tactics during games, surprising opponents and achieving victory, and the arduous journey of the team fighting with their tenacious spirit. He encouraged the new generation of Miaoli High School basketball players.
Xie Shengxin, Director of the Hakka Affairs Council's Hakka Culture Development Center, stated that Miaoli High School is one of the important bases for Miaoli's basketball development. The touring exhibition returns to this important historical site, allowing more teachers and students to see the stories behind the glory of Mountain City basketball, and hoping that more young students will deepen their identification with and inheritance of Hakka culture through the exhibition experience.
Miaoli High School Principal Wu Zhengcheng said that over the years, Miaoli High School has nurtured countless outstanding students who have shone in various fields. This anniversary, in cooperation with the Hakka Culture Development Center, the two sides have also jointly developed and added multiple interactive multimedia display materials, such as AR and VR basketball experience zones, allowing teachers and students to immerse themselves in the passionate fun of shooting hoops through modern technology. During the exhibition period, it will also be coordinated with curriculum activities to encourage teachers and students from within the school and surrounding satellite schools to visit the exhibition and extend their learning.
