Central News Agency reported on April 30 from Taipei that according to China's state media CCTV News, Chinese and Thai officials recently collaborated to extradite a major suspect, surnamed Huang, in a significant cross-border online gambling case from Thailand back to China. The case involves over 500 million RMB (approximately NT$2.25 billion).

The report states that under the deployment of China's Ministry of Public Security and with strong support from relevant Thai authorities, Tianjin public security organs extradited a major suspect, surnamed Huang, from a significant cross-border online gambling case from Thailand back to China on April 29. The case involves over 500 million RMB.

According to reports, from September 2022 to June 2023, the main suspect Huang colluded with others to form a criminal group in Cambodia, operating the 'Wanhe Football' gambling platform online. They lured and recruited personnel to engage in online gambling criminal activities, using an agency model to develop downlines and gambler members, recruiting agents and gamblers at various levels within China, with over 500 million RMB involved.

In February this year, relevant Thai authorities ruled to extradite suspect Huang to China.

China and Thailand also jointly extradited She Zhijiang, a suspect in illegal online gambling operations, from Thailand back to China last year.

She Zhijiang, 43, a Chinese national holding a Cambodian passport, was arrested by Thai police in August 2022. Beijing authorities accused him of illegally operating online gambling, and an Interpol Red Notice was issued for him.

The Thai Criminal Court ruled in May 2024 to extradite She Zhijiang to China, but his legal team appealed to the Constitutional Court. The Thai Constitutional Court ruled in April last year that the extradition order was valid.

The Thai prosecutor stated on November 10 last year that She Zhijiang would be extradited to China 'to stand trial for illegally operating a casino.' Two days later, She Zhijiang was extradited from Thailand back to China. (Editors: Chou Hui-Ying / Yang Sheng-Ru) 1150430
