(New Taipei, Central News Agency reporter Huang Hsu-sheng, 30th) A high school girl in Luzhou, New Taipei, was stalked and assaulted. The court ruled to detain the suspect. Due to the suspect's history of multiple offenses over many years, Mayor Hou You-yi today stated that after review, there will be strengthened investigation, guidance, and visits for high-risk cases in New Taipei City, with early intervention to prevent future occurrences.

A high school girl in Luzhou, New Taipei, was followed by a man surnamed You after school on April 28. Her grandmother and the local chief intervened and were assaulted by the man. The New Taipei District Prosecutor's Office determined that the man was involved in severe injury and stalking, and posed a risk of escape and repeated offenses, thus applying for detention without visitation, which the New Taipei District Court approved last night.

It is understood that this was not the man's first offense; since September 2023, he has committed 8 sexual harassment cases against underage girls in Luzhou District.

When interviewed by the media today, Mayor Hou You-yi was asked how to prevent such repeat offenses from happening again in the future.

Hou You-yi reiterated his appreciation for neighborhood chief Guo, who acted courageously to protect citizens and was injured. He also wished a speedy recovery for neighborhood chief Guo and the victim's grandmother, hoping that such incidents would not recur.

He stated that the suspect has been transferred and detained by court order. In addition to condemning violence, the city government has specifically reviewed this matter and will strengthen investigations, guidance, and visits for high-risk cases in New Taipei City. Through early intervention by police, health, and social welfare, they aim to prevent such incidents from happening again.

The New Taipei City Health Bureau responded to a Central News Agency inquiry this afternoon, stating that for community nuisance cases with suspected mental health symptoms, they will strengthen contact with the police department to understand the individual's situation and collaboratively assess and assist with subsequent medical needs. Additionally, for sexual harassment cases combined with mental health care, they will cooperate with the Domestic Violence Prevention Center to strengthen monitoring and early understanding and prevention.
