(CNA reporter Chao Min-ya, Taipei, 30th) With Middle East conflicts affecting energy prices, CPC Taiwan today stated that in coordination with the government's domestic price stabilization policy, residential natural gas prices will not be adjusted in May, nor will industrial prices. For power generation users, prices will increase by 9.34% to reasonably reflect the surging cost of gas sources.

CPC Taiwan today explained that the situation in the Middle East remains tense, and international spot market prices for liquefied natural gas (LNG) are still at a high level, leading to a significant increase in import gas source costs. According to calculations based on the government-approved natural gas price formula, natural gas prices for all types of users should be adjusted upwards. To coordinate with the government's domestic price stabilization policy, residential natural gas prices will not be adjusted in May, and CPC Taiwan will absorb the unadjusted portion, benefiting residential users (including households, commercial, and service industries) across Taiwan, reducing their burden and maintaining price stability.

Regarding industrial users, CPC stated that from 2021 to March 2026, the accumulated amount absorbed has exceeded NT$138 billion. After comprehensively considering domestic prices and the overall economic situation, prudently evaluating the industry's tolerance, and appropriately reflecting gas source costs, industrial natural gas prices will not be adjusted in May. The unadjusted portion will continue to be absorbed by CPC Taiwan.

CPC announced that for power generation users, to reasonably reflect the surging cost of gas sources, natural gas prices will be increased by 9.34% in May.

CPC emphasized that since the outbreak of conflicts in the Middle East on February 28, it has immediately implemented three major solutions—advance procurement, peer exchange, and spot market purchases—to ensure an uninterrupted domestic natural gas supply. In the future, it will continue to monitor international oil and gas market dynamics, prudently review domestic gas prices and absorbed amounts while ensuring stable company operations and coordinating with the government's price stabilization policy.
