The Tang Prize Foundation today released 'Tang Prize Observations in a Changing Global Landscape,' which reviews the contributions of past six laureates and proposes the 2026 top ten global core issues. CEO Chen Chen-chuan hopes that through the Tang Prize, human wisdom and interdisciplinary knowledge can be gathered to jointly address these issues.
Issues related to the Sustainable Development Award include global energy and energy transition, AI era energy demand and low-carbon technology, and climate change and climate adaptation (also related to the Rule of Law Award).
Issues related to the Biopharmaceutical Science Award include gene editing therapy entering clinical trials, breakthroughs in cell and gene therapy medicine, AI-driven drug research and development and precision medicine, and chronic diseases and public health policies.
Issues related to the Rule of Law Award include AI governance and technology regulation, armed conflict and democratic resilience; issues related to the Sinology Award are civilization understanding and cultural dialogue under geopolitics.
Chen Chen-chuan emphasized that the core issues currently facing the world highly echo the research fields of past Tang Prize laureates. As for who will win the 7th Tang Prize in 2026, the announcement is expected in mid-June, with the awards ceremony held in September.
