(Central News Agency reporter Lin Hung-han, Los Angeles 28th) Taiwanese expatriate organizations in Los Angeles, New York, Houston, San Diego, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and other major U.S. cities today issued a joint statement condemning China's unreasonable interference with President Lai's foreign visit and calling on the United States to address Taiwan's unfair treatment.

The Greater Los Angeles Taiwan Center, New York Taiwan Center, Houston Taiwanese Activity Center, San Diego Taiwan Center, Northern California Taiwan Center, Washington D.C. Taiwan Cultural Center, and other Taiwanese expatriate organizations in major U.S. cities jointly issued the statement today.

The statement pointed out that President Lai Ching-te was originally scheduled to visit diplomatic ally Eswatini, but due to pressure from China, Seychelles, Mauritius, and Madagascar cancelled flight permits, forcing the trip to be postponed one day before departure. Such public interference in the travel of Taiwan's head of state using aviation means is extremely rare in decades.

The statement emphasized that President Lai is the democratically elected president representing the 23 million people of Taiwan, committed to expanding international friendships and conveying democratic values, and should receive respect and support from the international community.

The Taiwanese expatriate groups thanked the Eswatini government for reiterating its unwavering friendship with Taiwan and called on all countries to recognize Taiwan's legitimate right to free exchanges with other countries. They urged them not to succumb to China's undue coercion or abuse the principle of sovereignty to harm the interests of other nations.

The statement called on North American Taiwanese expatriates and friends of Taiwan to unite and urge the United States and all United Nations member states to address the unfair treatment Taiwan faces, support Taiwan's participation in important international organizations such as the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and take concrete actions to prevent China from coercing other countries and causing similar harm to Taiwan or other nations through indirect means.
