TAIPEI (Central News Agency reporter Tseng Jen-kai, April 29) – Taiwan's stock market saw a significant rally in April, breaking above 40,000 points twice this week but failing to maintain that level. The US Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, which is highly correlated with the Taiwan stock market, also pulled back for two consecutive days this week after an 18-day winning streak.
Institutional investors believe the Taiwan stock market is excessively divergent and anticipate short-term high-level volatility around the 40,000-point mark.
On Tuesday, all four major US indices closed lower. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 25.86 points, or 0.05%, to close at 49141.93 points. The S&P 500 index also retreated from its historical high, closing down 35.11 points, or 0.49%, at 7138.80 points.

Chen Chih-hao, general manager of Concord Securities, analyzed that even with the interference of the US-Iran conflict, the Taiwan stock market performed very strongly. Its rapid ascent in April was like a soaring stock. As of April 28, the Taiwan stock market had only four trading days closing in the red in April, with the main board surging over 8,000 points at its peak and breaking through the 40,000-point barrier intraday.
Chen Chih-hao believes that the trend of AI infrastructure construction will continue for a considerable period, and it is still in its early stages. With continuous expansion in AI capital expenditure and related supply chains, it will help boost the Taiwan stock market's mid-to-long-term trend.
However, Concord Securities warned that the Taiwan stock index is excessively divergent, and trading volume has exploded. It is expected that there will be short-term high-level volatility, awaiting the convergence of technical divergence. (Editor: Chang Chun-mao) 1150429
