(Central News Agency reporter Yang Si-rui, Tainan, 29th) Chi-Mei Hospital has partnered with National Cheng Kung University to launch a "Sustainable Healthcare Manager Certification Training Program." Fifty trainees from 6 hospitals in Tainan have been certified and will become a new force for promoting green transformation initiatives such as carbon reduction strategies and circular economy within the southern medical system.
Chi-Mei Hospital held the graduation and certification ceremony for the Sustainable Healthcare Manager Certification Training Program today. Representatives from Chi-Mei Medical Center (Yongkang Chi-Mei Hospital, Liuying Chi-Mei Hospital, Jiali Chi-Mei Hospital), as well as Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital Tainan Branch, Yingsin Hospital, and Hong Surgical Hospital, totaling 6 hospitals, participated. Fifty sustainable healthcare managers were successfully cultivated.
Lin Hong-rong, Superintendent of Chi-Mei Hospital, stated in his speech that sustainable development should not be a solo effort. This collaboration, supported by resources from the Ministry of Health and Welfare's Health Taiwan Deep Cultivation Project, and professional curriculum planning with the FinTech and Business Innovation Research Center of National Cheng Kung University, allowed Chi-Mei Hospital to share its medical center-level sustainable training resources with its system and partner hospitals, reducing the gap in sustainability information among hospitals of different levels.
Lin Hong-rong said that this "leading the smaller ones" model aligns with the "Social Responsibility (S)" and "Governance (G)" aspects of ESG, and is a concrete action to jointly promote the overall carbon reduction goals of the healthcare industry through industry-government-academia collaboration.
He added that the course design precisely aligns with policies from the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Ministry of Environment. Trainees are required to master international trends such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, preparation of sustainability reports, climate governance, and biodiversity within 30 hours of coursework. Workshops on "Stakeholder Identification" and "ISO 14064-1 Carbon Footprint Inventory" were also arranged, allowing trainees from different backgrounds to practice internal collaborative management processes and inspire more creative ideas relevant to clinical and management settings.
Lin Hong-rong pointed out that Chi-Mei Hospital expects sustainable healthcare managers not only to learn theory but also to establish actionable strategies, with a sense of mission to implement them from various corners of the hospital. In the future, they will become a backbone force in promoting specific actions such as carbon reduction strategies and circular economy within the southern medical system.
