(Central News Agency reporter Yang Ssu-jui, Tainan, 29th) A fire broke out early this morning in an apartment building on Mingqing Street in Sinying District, Tainan City. The power control box for the fire equipment in the underground parking lot caught fire for unknown reasons, triggering the building's automatic alarm system. The building's management committee chairman, who was a former volunteer firefighter, successfully carried out initial firefighting with an extinguisher, preventing the disaster from escalating.

The Tainan City Fire Bureau was notified around 3 AM that a fire had occurred in the basement of an apartment building on Mingqing Street in Sinying District. They immediately dispatched 12 vehicles of various types and 25 personnel for rescue. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the fire originated from the power control box of the fire equipment in the underground parking lot for unknown reasons, triggering the building's automatic alarm system and loud alarms. Residents had already used fire extinguishers for initial firefighting, preventing a disaster.

Qiu Guozhen, commander of the Tainan City Fire Bureau's First Brigade, told the Central News Agency that the building's chairman, Chen Chih-hsiung, is a retired volunteer firefighter from the Sinying fire brigade. Drawing on over 30 years of extensive rescue experience, he decisively used a fire extinguisher for initial firefighting before the blaze spread, and safely guided residents to a gathering point along the evacuation route, effectively preventing the disaster from escalating.

Qiu Guozhen stated that once a fire occurs in a basement, high temperatures and dense smoke can quickly accumulate, making rescue extremely difficult. This time, a major disaster was averted thanks to the effective operation of the automatic fire alarm system and the building chairman's alert and appropriate response.

He added that volunteer firefighters are unsung heroes who protect urban safety. Even after retirement, their professional skills and concepts in rescue operations remain deeply ingrained. Furthermore, the normal operation of building fire safety equipment is an absolute key to initial response, urging all community management committees to regularly implement fire equipment inspection and reporting.
