(Central News Agency, Manila, 29th, comprehensive foreign report) A Philippine House committee today found "sufficient grounds" for the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte, laying the groundwork for a subsequent House vote on impeachment. This move will have a significant impact on the 2028 presidential election.

According to AFP, the Philippine House Justice Committee today unanimously voted to affirm that the evidence listed in the two impeachment complaints was sufficient to establish sufficient grounds for impeachment. The complaints accuse Sara of alleged misappropriation of public funds during her tenure and issuing death threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

These two impeachment cases will be merged into one and submitted to the full House for a vote.

According to the Philippine Constitution, if the House passes an impeachment resolution, it will be sent to the Senate for trial. If convicted, the eldest daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte will be permanently barred from holding public office.

One of the initiators of the impeachment, current Congresswoman Leila de Lima, stated that evidence showed Sara had an "alarming pattern of wealth accumulation with unknown sources," and her threats "struck at the core of constitutional order."

De Lima told the committee before the vote: "We undoubtedly have sufficient and legitimate reasons to proceed with the process and impeach the Vice President."

Sara's threats against Marcos Jr. stemmed from a late-night press conference where she claimed to have hired a hitman who would eliminate the president if anything happened to her. She later explained that her remarks were misunderstood.

The Philippine National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) today told the committee that the Vice President's alleged death threats constituted "sedition."

Regarding the accusations, Sara refused to attend any hearings, stating that she would only answer questions if the process reached the Senate trial stage. (Compiler: Liu Shu-chin) 1150429
