This year, the Hakka Affairs Council is transforming the participation format of the Tung Blossom Festival, combining literary creation, image solicitation, and cultural pathway experiences to create a national cultural movement that shifts from 'observing' to 'participating'. The 2026 Tung Blossom Festival, themed "Tung Blossom's Three-Line Poetry," simultaneously launched a "three-line poetry" contest. Submissions are open immediately until May 20, divided into Hakka and Mandarin groups, with each selected entry receiving NT$5,000. The event lowers the creative threshold through short poems, transforming tung blossoms from a natural landscape into a medium for personal emotion and cultural memory. A highlight this year is the first-ever exhibition of past selected works in national commuting spaces, fully displayed across the Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, and Kaohsiung MRT systems, extending literature from paper to daily life. The organizers stated that by transforming urban mobility scenes, they hope to expand cultural reach and overturn public perceptions of Hakka culture, allowing reading to naturally integrate into daily rhythms. In addition to literary creation, an "Online Tung Blossom Photography Exhibition" is also open for public submissions, documenting tung blossom scenery through images and forming a new model of cultural co-creation. From poetry to images, the event design moves towards "content generation," strengthening participation and diffusion effects. In terms of local collaboration, the Hakka Affairs Council integrates 12 counties and cities across Taiwan, combining the "Caminos de lauraceae" and local tung blossom viewing trails, introducing guided tours and hiking experiences to deepen public understanding of Hakka villages' history and cultural textures. Each county and city also develops diverse activity types, showcasing local characteristics blending nature and humanity. This year, the Hakka Affairs Council specially teamed up with Gukeng Township, Yunlin County, to hold a grand opening at the Hubaoshan Tung Blossom Park in Gukeng Township, Yunlin County, inviting the cross-genre music group Taiji Orchestra to perform live, opening with music that interwoven mountains, tung blossoms, and sounds, creating an immersive cultural experience.
