(Central News Agency reporter Chao Li-Yen, Taichung, 29th) The northern section of the "Fengyuan Forestry Bureau Dormitory Cluster," which bears witness to a century of forestry development in central Taiwan, will begin restoration in May and is expected to be completed in 2028. It will connect with the Baxianshan National Forest Recreation Area's ecological tourism axis, creating Fengyuan's most representative new forestry cultural landmark.

The Taichung Branch of the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency today issued a press release stating that this project is not only a building restoration project but also focuses on integrating forestry history into modern life. They have also exchanged opinions and communicated with local representatives regarding subsequent operational planning, hoping that the regeneration and utilization of the building cluster will meet local expectations.

The Taichung Branch of the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency stated that the "Fengyuan Forestry Bureau Dormitory Cluster" consists of staff dormitories successively built after the Baxianshan Forest Farm's Taichung Office moved to Fengyuan in 1927. The Taichung City Government announced its registration as a historical building cluster in 2015. Its structural materials are all made of Taiwan cypress, making it an important cultural asset witnessing Fengyuan's forestry development, with significant historical value.

The northern building cluster on Yangming Street, currently undergoing restoration, is part of a medium-to-long-term plan approved by the Executive Yuan. The total project cost is approximately NT$79.68 million. The project will adhere to the principle of "restoring the old as old," preserving its original appearance and historical memory, and extending the connotation of forestry culture. The municipal historic site "Baxianshan Forest Farm Taichung Office Accommodation" in the northern area has been restored and opened to the public last year. In the future, it will be integrated with the overall planning of the northern dormitory cluster, recreating the historical grandeur of forestry and providing a more complete cultural experience.
