(Central News Agency reporter Cao Ya-yan, New Taipei, 29th) In January this year, a man surnamed Liao in Luzhou, New Taipei City, allegedly killed his parents by stabbing them dozens of times after an argument over money. He then fled on a scooter and changed clothes to evade capture, but was eventually arrested in Xinzhuang District. The New Taipei District Prosecutors Office recently indicted him on charges including homicide and patricide/matricide of lineal ascendants.
According to police investigation, the man surnamed Liao, in his 30s, lived with his parents in Luzhou. On the evening of January 17, he allegedly had a conflict with his parents over pocket money, stabbed them with a machete, and then fled. He was arrested in Xinzhuang on the evening of January 19 and subsequently ordered to be detained without communication by the New Taipei District Court. The New Taipei District Prosecutors Office recently concluded the investigation and indicted him on charges of homicide under the Criminal Code and patricide/matricide of lineal ascendants. The entire case will be tried under the National Judges Act.
Recalling the case, on January 18 this year, the Luzhou Precinct of the New Taipei City Police Department received a report that a woman had repeatedly failed to contact her cousin, the 67-year-old Mr. Liao, and called the police for assistance. After police had a locksmith open the door to Mr. Liao's residence, they found Mr. Liao and his wife, 75-year-old Ms. Xu, lying dead in a pool of blood in the living room. Investigations by prosecutors and police found that both had multiple stab wounds to their faces and heads, and died from massive bleeding and brain lacerations.
It is understood that the deceased couple usually sold scallion pancakes from a small truck for a living, while their only son, Mr. Liao, was unemployed and occasionally worked odd jobs. Police reviewed surveillance footage and found that the son had left the crime scene on a scooter on the evening of January 17, making him a prime suspect.
The police investigation revealed that after committing the crime, the suspect Liao rode his scooter to Sanchong and abandoned it, then took a taxi to Xinzhuang and fled on foot. During his escape, he repeatedly changed clothes and hid in dark alleys to avoid detection. Police also found a machete in the trunk of his scooter. After mobilizing 80 police officers for a blanket search, police arrested suspect Liao in Xinzhuang District on the evening of January 19. (Edited by Li Shu-hua) 1150429
