Nepotism Allegations Against Vice President: National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University Denies Rumors and Plans Legal Action

HSINCHU (CNA) — National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) responded today to media reports alleging that Vice President Chen Yong-fu arranged a job for his daughter and used public funds for his son's international travel. The university stated that these allegations appear to be malicious rumors spread by a former employee dissatisfied with the termination of their contract, and the school is considering legal action.

According to reports, authorities including the Ministry of Education have received whistleblowing letters since late March, accusing Chen of pressuring subordinates to create a vacancy for his daughter and misusing funds for his son's academic trips. In a press release, NYCU clarified that an internal investigation, reviewed by the Executive Yuan and Ministry of Education, confirmed that all personnel recruitment followed official regulations and that Chen was not involved in the interview or hiring process. Regarding his son's participation in an international conference, the school explained it was a formal academic exchange following peer review of a paper, supported by Ministry of Science and Technology grants. The university condemned the dissemination of fragmentary and out-of-context information and vowed to protect its reputation through necessary legal means.
