(CNA reporter Hsieh Chun-lin, Taipei, 29th) Chen Chun-yi, a 43-year-old man from Miaoli City, posted a threatening message on a female netizen's social media platform on March 6th, stating, "I'm going to throw sulfuric acid at the Taipei Lantern Festival and kill a few people, happy death day to you." Police were notified and arrested Chen Chun-yi, and the Taipei District Prosecutors Office today indicted him on charges of threatening the public and endangering public safety.

The Taipei District Prosecutors Office's indictment states that Chen Chun-yi, dissatisfied with being stopped by a police officer, previously drove into an officer and was sentenced to prison, completing his sentence and being released in March last year. Knowing that in December 2025, a suspect had thrown smoke bombs to create panic and launched indiscriminate knife attacks at Taipei Main Station and Zhongshan District's Nanxi Commercial Circle, causing multiple casualties, he nonetheless posted a threatening message on a female netizen's social media platform around 5 PM on March 6th this year.

According to the indictment, Chen Chun-yi used his Instagram social media account to post the message "I'm going to throw sulfuric acid at the Taipei Lantern Festival on 3/8, kill a few people, happy death day to you" on a female netizen's social media platform. The female netizen took a screenshot and reported it to the police.

After receiving the report, police arrested Chen Chun-yi in Miaoli City, Miaoli County, around 11 PM that night and transferred him to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office. The next day, after questioning, the prosecutor believed Chen Chun-yi was highly suspected of committing crimes of threatening public safety and public intimidation under the Criminal Code, and that there was a risk of repeated offenses. A request for detention and restricted communication was approved by the Taipei District Court. The Taipei District Prosecutors Office concluded the investigation and indicted him today.
