(Central News Agency reporter Cao Ya-yan, New Taipei 29th) A female high school student in New Taipei's Luzhou District was stalked by a man named You on her way home yesterday. She called her grandmother for help, and when her grandmother and the village chief intervened, they were assaulted by You. Prosecutors today filed for You's detention, citing charges including aggravated assault and the risk of flight and repeat offenses.
Police stated that an 18-year-old female high school student was followed by a man surnamed You on her way home around 4 PM yesterday. The female student called her grandmother for help, and her grandmother waited in the community and intervened, only to be assaulted by You. The village chief, who also tried to intervene, was also beaten. Fortunately, other eyewitnesses intervened and subdued him.
Officers arrived and immediately handcuffed and arrested You, taking him back to the police station. After questioning, You was transferred to the prosecutor's office on suspicion of aggravated assault, assault, and violation of the Anti-Stalking and Harassment Prevention Act. The police recommended preventive detention and a request for security処分.
The grandmother suffered serious injuries including a ruptured liver, while Xinyi Village Chief Guo Teng-fang sustained a laceration to his right eyelid.
After questioning by the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office, the prosecutor determined that You was strongly suspected of aggravated assault, assault, and violating the Anti-Stalking and Harassment Prevention Act. Given that these charges carry a minimum sentence of five years or more, and there is a risk of flight and repeat offenses, the prosecutor requested the court to detain You without visitation.
