(Central News Agency reporter Pan Hsin-tung, Lienchiang County, 29th) With only about 7 months left until the year-end general election, the Lienchiang District Prosecutors Office today convened relevant units to hold a pre-election strategy meeting for investigating bribery, declaring its determination to combat bribery and other election interference, and to create a clean electoral environment in Matsu.
The Fujian Lienchiang District Prosecutors Office today issued a press release stating that it convened the Matsu Investigation Station, Lienchiang County Police Bureau; Coast Guard Administration Lienchiang Investigation Team, 10th Coast Guard Flotilla, and 10th Coastal Patrol Command; Lienchiang County Government Ethics Office, Civil Affairs and Social Affairs Department; National Immigration Agency Northern Affairs Corps Lienchiang Regional Administrative Center, and Matsu Defense Command Legal Affairs Section, among others, to hold the 115th local public official election bribery investigation pre-election strategy meeting.
The Lienchiang District Prosecutors Office pointed out that the participating units jointly discussed bribery investigation strategies and explored the investigation and prevention of 'ghost voters,' anti-bribery advocacy, etc., hoping to use cross-domain cooperation to jointly declare their determination to combat bribery and other election-related crimes. The goal is to make candidates afraid to buy votes, and voters afraid to sell votes and brave enough to report.
The Lienchiang District Prosecutors Office stated that during the meeting, Chief Prosecutor Yang Yi-yun explained past cases of bribery and 'ghost voters' in the county and announced that starting from late May, monthly election analysis and intelligence review meetings will be held. To encourage grassroots police forces to actively report bribery intelligence, starting from the same month, the office will cooperate with the Lienchiang County Police Bureau to hold discussions at various police stations and substations within the jurisdiction as part of preliminary planning.
The Lienchiang District Prosecutors Office said that the participating units reached a consensus that key anti-bribery efforts for the year-end election will include establishing a regional joint anti-bribery mechanism for Matsu compatriots in Taiwan, effectively clearing out 'ghost voters,' actively collecting intelligence, strengthening the investigation of cash entertainment and travel bribery, targeting hot spots for bribery, and preventing foreign forces and violence from interfering in elections.
The Lienchiang District Prosecutors Office appeals to the public that if they have any information related to bribery, please bravely report it. The prosecutors will, upon receiving reports, adhere to the principles of legality and fairness, and thoroughly investigate and handle cases quickly to ensure a clean electoral environment.
