Hong Kong, April 29 (CNA) — With Iran war talks making no progress and no hope for reopening the strategic Strait of Hormuz, international oil prices continued to rise, and Asian stock markets showed mixed trends today.

Agence France-Presse reported that the White House stated President Trump and his team are considering Tehran's latest proposal aimed at restoring shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, but CNN and The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump is skeptical of it.

Iran's Defense Ministry spokesperson, Reza Talaei-Nik, stated that the US “must abandon illegal and unreasonable demands,” adding that the US “is no longer capable of dictating to independent nations.”

Stephen Innes, strategist at SPI Asset Management, pointed out: “Iran wants the blockade lifted and oil flow restored, but Washington, which holds the upper hand, is in no hurry to make concessions until the last moment.”

He added: “The longer the stalemate continues, the more obvious the ripple effects will be. Increased pressure on oil storage, emerging production risks, and a tightening of the entire system will all be reflected in futures prices.”

Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index closed up 1.7% at 26111.84 points. The Shanghai Composite Index closed up 0.7% at 4107.52 points. Tokyo stock market was closed for a holiday.

As for other Asian stocks, Seoul, Jakarta, Wellington, and Manila stock markets closed higher. Taipei, Sydney, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur stock markets closed lower. (Translator: He Hong-ru) 1150429
