(Central News Agency reporter Chen Rong-chen, Taipei, 29th) The 114th academic year Elementary School Basketball League (EBL) national finals will kick off on May 8. This year's competition will continue to use the 260cm and 305cm hoop categories, and will prohibit zone defense and double-teaming before the ball enters the frontcourt restricted area, aiming to align with international standards.

This year's Elementary School Basketball League continues to run in parallel with two tracks: the 260cm hoop category (260cm basket) and the 305cm hoop category (305cm basket), providing diverse stages for players at different developmental stages. It has attracted 354 boys' teams and 99 girls' teams, with a total of 7376 participants. The national finals will see 84 boys' teams and 68 girls' teams, with 2187 participating players, setting a new record for the scale of the event.

Notably, in adherence to international youth basketball rules, both the 260cm and 305cm categories of this year's Elementary School Basketball League will use man-to-man defense rules, prohibiting zone defense and double-teaming before the ball enters the frontcourt restricted area. The goal is to allow young players to grow in an environment closer to international rules, thereby enhancing their technical application and tactical concepts, and preparing them for higher-level basketball stages in the future.

Fang Rui-wen, Director-General of the Sports Administration, Ministry of Education, attended the opening press conference today. In an interview with the Central News Agency, he revealed that after the ban on zone defense was implemented last season, the overall competition process went smoothly. However, communication with coaches and parents is ongoing, and in the future, it is hoped that this regulation will be extended to all elementary school level competitions, not only to align with international standards but also for the long-term development of elementary school basketball.
