(Central News Agency reporter Huang Kuo-fang, Chiayi City, 29th) A male student surnamed Chang from National Chiayi University was riding a motorcycle with a female student in the early morning of the 24th when he had a self-inflicted accident on Daxue Road Section 2 in Minxiong Township, falling into a ditch. The male student died, and the female student was injured and sent to the hospital. Police stated that there are many motorcycle accidents involving university students, and they have strengthened traffic safety awareness campaigns with the school.

The police stated that the 22-year-old male student surnamed Chang was riding a motorcycle with a female student in the early morning of the 24th. While traveling on Daxue Road Section 2 in Minxiong Township, for unknown reasons, the motorcycle lost control, crashed, and both the vehicle and riders fell into a ditch beside the road. Rescue personnel rushed to the scene and sent both to the hospital for emergency treatment. The male student still succumbed to his injuries the following evening, while the female student is undergoing treatment.

The police said that there are 3 universities and 1 technical college in their jurisdiction, and motorcycle accidents involving university students are frequent, mostly concentrated at the beginning of the school year. The main reasons include unfamiliarity with road conditions, excessive speed, and failure to slow down at intersections. The police regularly cooperate with schools to promote traffic safety, including precautions such as slowing down at intersections, to protect personal safety and prevent tragedies.

The police also stated that they are promoting defensive driving to students, which is a philosophy of road use that involves "predicting danger and avoiding danger." This means actively recognizing potential risks (such as other vehicles violating rules, blind spots, bad weather) and taking proactive measures to prevent accidents.

National Chiayi University stated that the school promotes traffic safety through various channels, including producing monthly student safety notifications and sending emails to student mailboxes, as well as posting them on the school's department websites. They also particularly strengthen awareness during annual freshman orientation, reminding students of motorcycle riding precautions. (Editor: Li Heng-shan) 1150429
