(Central News Agency, Washington, 28th, compiled from foreign reports) British King Charles III today met with US technology industry leaders during his visit to the United States to discuss the challenges faced by startups in their initial stages. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang stated that what is most needed now is a vibrant venture capital ecosystem and startup culture.

Reuters reported that attendees included Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Apple CEO Tim Cook, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, AMD CEO Lisa Su, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, and Alphabet President Ruth Porat.

King Charles III mentioned the problems faced by startups transitioning from university research and the difficulties they encounter in raising funds. He told the CEOs present: "These people, in my view, are often the hardest to get started, they fall into this terrible 'valley of death'."

Huang told King Charles III that fields such as artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum robotics have great development potential, and "what we need now is a vibrant venture capital ecosystem and startup culture."

Charles teased: "But you are all mortal enemies, fighting to the death!" which erupted in laughter.

Huang humorously retorted: "Not to the point of killing each other." Charles then countered: "Oh? Really?" again drawing laughter from the room.

Bezos recalled that when he founded Amazon in 1995, he struggled to raise $1 million, only managing to get $50,000 at a time, and 40 people rejected him.

King Charles III responded: "Those 40 people must be regretting it now," which elicited widespread laughter. King Charles III also likened those who passed on investing in Amazon to the many publishers who rejected publishing "Harry Potter."

US President Trump announced during his visit to the UK last September that companies including Microsoft, NVIDIA, Google, and OpenAI have pledged to invest £31 billion (approximately NT$1.3272 trillion) in the UK over the next few years, covering areas such as AI, quantum computing, and civil nuclear energy.
