5 Guide Dogs Graduate from Huigu; Juan Chao-hsiung Presents Certificates

(CNA Reporter Wang Hung-kuo, New Taipei, 29th) Huigu Guide Dog School in New Taipei held a heartwarming graduation ceremony today. Five guide dogs were awarded graduation certificates by Juan Chao-hsiung, Deputy Secretary-General of the Executive Yuan. They will serve in New Taipei, Taichung, Kaohsiung, and Yilan, becoming essential partners for their visually impaired owners.

In addition to the graduation ceremony, a ground-breaking ceremony for the Cixin Building was held by the Taiwan Reconstruction Institute for the Blind and Huigu Guide Dog School today. Notable attendees included Juan Chao-hsiung, New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih, Keelung Chief Prosecutor Kuo Yung-fa, and officials from central and local governments.

Following a blessing ritual led by Mayor Hou, Tseng Han-lin, Principal of Huigu and Chairman of the Reconstruction Institute, stated that the 1st and 2nd floors of the new Cixin Building will house a visual impairment massage station and a music cafe. This will provide job opportunities and a friendly work environment for the blind.

During the graduation, matched users and their guide dogs took the stage one by one to receive certificates. Secretary-General Peng Hsiao-han called on the public to observe the 'Four Don'ts and One Ask' (Don't feed, pet, call, or refuse; and Do ask if help is needed) when encountering guide dogs in public.

A user surnamed Kuo, who was matched with guide dog NASA, shared his experience. He explained that NASA is proactive in helping him navigate busy streets and avoids obstacles like motorcycles parked on sidewalks.
