Actor Wu Kang-ren was slapped 20 times by Hong Kong star Tse Kwan-ho during the filming of the Hong Kong movie 'Cold War 1994', resulting in a swollen face. Tse Kwan-ho laughed during an interview yesterday, saying he had been looking forward to this scene since he got the script, and both actors decided to 'go for real,' which made him feel great about the performance.

'Cold War 1994' is a prequel released 10 years after the original series, focusing on 'Li Wen-bin' (played by Terence Lau) and 'Cai Yuan-qi' (played by Daniel Wu). Director Liang Lok-man and the cast shared details during a video interview with Taiwan media. Tse recalled that to maintain emotional continuity across different camera angles, they ended up filming the scene with about 20 slaps in total. 'Kang-ren's face was swollen; it was the last scene of the day, and my hand hurt too,' Tse added.

Director Liang revealed that he invited Wu Kang-ren to join the cast during the year Wu won the Golden Horse for 'Abang Adik'. Wu even insisted on speaking Cantonese with the crew to stay in character. 'Cold War 1994' will hit theaters in Taiwan on May 8.
