(Central News Agency reporter Yang Szu-Jui, Tainan, 28th) Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim attended the National Science and Technology Council's All-Optical Network Smart City Application Launch and the First AI IMPACT Greater South Achievement Exhibition in Tainan today. She stated that the government is actively promoting the AI New Ten Major Construction Projects to layout industrial competitiveness and simultaneously integrate AI into people's lives.
The National Science and Technology Council is implementing the "Greater South New Silicon Valley Promotion Plan." Today, at the Cybersecurity and Smart Technology R&D Building and AI Innovation Application Building in Tainan, they held the All-Optical Network Smart City Application Launch and the opening of the First AI IMPACT Greater South Achievement Exhibition. Vice President Hsiao, NSTC Minister Wu Cheng-Wen, Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-Che, and representatives from relevant ministries and industry-academia-research sectors participated.
The event included a trend forum, product and solution achievement displays, business matching, and promotions for various smart living innovation application achievements, showcasing phased results.
Vice President Hsiao stated in her speech that although Taiwan is low-key in the global technology supply chain, it plays a critical role and is actively striving to break through the limits of single-regional development. The government also hopes that in the process of Taiwan's transformation and upgrading, every city can find its strategic position. The Greater South New Silicon Valley plan links various science parks and industrial corridors in the south, becoming an important driving engine in the face of global AI changes.
The Vice President said that in the face of future global competition, Taiwan cannot only rely on its advantages in hardware manufacturing. It needs to further master key technologies, infrastructure, and application fields. The government is also promoting the AI New Ten Major Construction Projects to layout the next stage of competitiveness based on existing industrial foundations, hoping to ensure that all industries benefit from AI and achieve the goal of AI popularization.
She said that the all-optical network is the main theme of today's event, characterized by low latency and high efficiency, and has the potential to improve the power consumption and energy efficiency of computing infrastructure construction. If it can be verified through the all-optical network in the southern region, providing new solutions to the world, it would be extremely exciting. Moreover, Taiwan and Japan are developing a partnership in this field, becoming an important force for continuous advancement in international competition.
Vice President Hsiao stated that the important task of the AI New Ten Major Construction Projects is to respond to the needs of society and the people, such as the smart transportation, smart healthcare, and remote care achievements demonstrated this time. She hopes that starting from the Greater South New Silicon Valley, more efficient and warmer solutions can be provided to the public.
Wu Cheng-Wen stated that in the field of "all-optical networks," telecommunications and network communication equipment vendors from Taiwan and Japan have gradually formed a cooperative team. In addition to continuously promoting the construction of cloud computing centers, the National Science and Technology Council also plans to build all-optical networks in the southern region as a demonstration field for smart cities and AI applications, combining with private industry to develop computing alliances.
